Yogi Charu
Yogi Charu began his lifelong relationship with yoga as a teenager looking for a way to stretch his body before wrestling. It wasn’t long until he developed a deep interest in meditation and adopted yoga as a lifestyle rather than as a sport. What moved him most was was the philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita, as it seemed to have all the answers to the questions he had about life.
Yogi Charu left his native Belize and for seven years, he split his time between Los Angeles and India. In 1995 he was initiated into the Bhrama Madhva Guadiya Sampradaya (lineage) by His Holiness Bhakti Charu Swami. He soon settled in India, where he migrated to the Himalayas to deepen his studies of Tantra, Kriya, and Yoga. After spending time traveling between India, Hong Kong, and San Francisco, Yogi Charu settled in Hong Kong in 2002 and began to give teacher training courses in Taiwan, Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, and China. In 2006 he moved to Sydney, Australia where he became an initiated disciple of Swami Anandakapila Saraswati a direct disciple of Swami Satyananda. Swami Satyananda initiated Yogi Charu into the 6 traditional Bengali Kriyas as well as in Angk Jotish (Vedic Numerology).
Now residing in New York City, Yogi Charu offers classes in traditional Kriya, Yoga, and Tantra.
In July 2010 Yogi Charu was made a Lululemon Ambassador of the East 66th store in New York City.
